Memory Video

In the making of my groups video, I was just one of the people in the video. Angelica filmed everything. The video is about our experience of trying to think of a memory that we could film. Confusing? Think of it kinda like Inception. A memory within a memory. Did I make it even more confusing? Oh well. We had fun creating this video. It wasn't much of an assignment to me, it was just another memory. (:

Capstone Recap

The process in making everything before the Capstone Presentation deadline was extremely stressful. I had many things get in the way of creating everything such as work, other classwork, weather, and editing programs not rendering correctly. But in the end, everything worked out perfectly! My judge expressed how much she loved my project and how she thought it was very creative. I am beyond excited to know that it is all over with, and now I can go back to having a life.

Brief Proposal Presentation

Theme:
My capstone project is over the generalized and biased way that media portrays teen dads. In contrary to the way media portrays the young fathers, I am creating a documentary about the true reality of teen fathers.

Props:

I will have a black table cloth on the table, a laptop with different tabs open for my website and my video, a stand for my poster, copies of my documentary, and pictures of still frames from the documentary.

Production Timeline:

I pretty much have to recreate everything. Within just a few weeks I will need to create a new poster, website, PSA, script for the presentation, and the actual documentary.

Capstone Website

I created my website using both Photoshop and Dreamweaver. I am still in the process of finishing up the website since I have yet to make the documentary due to the sudden change in projects, but I have my template for each page created. I did not want to use Wix.com because I wanted the whole website to be creative and my OWN creation. I chose the colors because that scheme of colors seemed to fit with my topic the best. When ever my project is complete, there will be a video on almost every page of the final draft of the website.

Website Prototype

For my website, I will have various pages within it. I do not want to overload the audience with too much information, so I think breaking everything down to different tabs is a good idea. Some of the different pages/tabs that I will include other than the main home page is pages for research, my essay, other websites that supports my research, my blueprint/floor plan for my center, and a page with my PSA.

Thinking Ahead: Presentation

To grab people's attention, I will use visual aids such as a poster, a 3D model, a handout, and a floor plan for the center I am creating. And once I have the audience's attention, I will maintain it by my speech and by making the statistics come to life and make it more personal for the audience.

Be a storyteller: People love stories, so the more anecdotal you are, the more memorable your presentation will be.
http://www.sitepoint.com/presentation-tips/

Be aware of how much time you have to stand and deliver: Be clear in what you must say, what you should say, and what you could say if you have time. Stick to your plan, topic and time.

http://www.flyingsolo.com.au/marketing/presentation-skills/business-presentation-skills-how-to-make-presentations-memorable

Show your passion: Hopefully you’re passionate about the subject matter. Let your enthusiasm come through in your delivery. It can be contagious and the perfect way to engage your audience.
http://www.sitepoint.com/presentation-tips/

Less is almost always better than more. When attempting to persuade, less is more. If it takes you five minutes to answer a question that you could have answered in 45 seconds, you will lose the attention of your listener.

http://www.articlesbase.com/presentation-articles/6-steps-to-make-your-presentation-or-speech-the-most-memorable-ever-made-learn-from-the-experts-for-free-480147.html

Make it interactive: To prevent boredom for your audience, plan group activities, ask questions and work in a break, if appropriate.
http://www.sitepoint.com/presentation-tips/

I think that all of the suggestions that were just listed were great ideas, but the ones that I think will be the most engaging are making the presentation interactive and showing your passion. If I don't show my passion towards my topic, the audience is less likely to care. And if my presentation has some interactive participation, it will be more likely to stick with the audience.

While looking through the TED website, I was unable to find any videos relating to my topic. However, the way that the speakers used their visual aides in their presentations was awesome! I think I gained some ideas for my visual aides from watching the videos.

Poster

While making my poster, I decided that I wanted it to revolve around the logo that I created a few months ago, so I put the logo at the center of attention. I wanted to keep the same consistent color schemes so I made the splatter and text color the same colors that were in the logo. I actually ended up changing the shade of red that I used because I did not want the red to be the same shade of red as blood. I still have some more work that I want to do to the poster, but I haven't figured out how to improve it yet.

SOPA and PIPA

I am strongly against the SOPA and PIPA acts. I have been following up on this act for months now. It is scary to see that it could possibly pass soon. If these acts passed, some of my favorite websites, such as YouTube, would be in jeopardy. There are several copyrighted material on YouTube, so SOPA is a huge threat to changing the website forever. My only hope is that the bills do not pass. Hopefully, main websites such as Wikipedia and Google that are blacking out against the bills will get more people informed about the acts and will contact their representatives about it to stop the bill from happening.

Researching Poster Design

I think that the four most important things to keep in mind while designing a poster is the audience, the main idea you are trying to convey, color schemes, and legibility.

Example of a poster design:

http://designhistorylab.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/poster2.jpg

This iPod poster is a perfect example of a great poster! It is not too complex, it relates to the young target audience, the colors fit well together, and it is very clear what each shape is.

PSA Presentation

My video came out a lot different than what I expected. My allergies were acting up all week and my voice wasn't where it needed to be for a video, so I was not able to be the one in front of the camera talking. I had my good friend, Zeithel, talking for me. She happens to be a fast talker and moves around a bunch right before she has a good take. And for that reason, it was really hard editing the video. The video was taken in a classroom at Richland. I would have preferred to record outside, but it was way too windy to do that. I also added a graphic at the end of the PSA to show the website to go to. As a film major, I am pretty disappointed in the outcome, but I plan on redoing the PSA commercial whenever my allergies are gone.

PSA Article

At first I thought that the Kansas Association of Broadcasters article was just going to be another one of those boring articles that are not helpful whatsoever. I was pretty positive that I knew everything that I could possibly need to know to make a PSA, but that was not the case. This article pointed out a whole bunch of information that I had never thought about before. For example, I was very interested in the section that talked about using real language. I am so use to the several commercials that talk so professionally that the message is skewed that I did not realize that talking in real language would be more effective. By reading the article, I realized that I needed to talk in real language so I would still be able to reach my target audience.

PSA Intent

1. I will probably do a PSA that just informs people about my issue and then asks for donations. The PSA will definitely be serious, and it will incorporate video, text, and music.

2. Outline of proposed structure:

-Start with music while fading in from black (music playing continuously)

-Video with me speaking about the issue

-Show pictures of people that are affected by the issue, while giving statistics (with text)

-Video of me giving the gist about what the center will do (present the statement of intent)

-Ask for donations (Show where they can donate at)

-Fade out to black (fade music)

Preliminary Identification of Presentation Capstone Elements

Defining the scope or approach to my presentation:

-My presentation will include constructing explanatory prop. (3D model and blueprint of the center)

-The poster will be presented on an easel.

-I will be fabricating a 3D model of the center for teenage mothers that will be constructed with earth friendly products.

-The appropriate attire for me would be professional wear such as a nice dress shirt and pants or even a dress. I want to be dressed as if I was working the center at the moment.

-Important points for me to present during my verbal presentation would include the mission statement of the center, an explanation of each room/ area that is included in the 3D model, factual support of my issue, and why I feel passionate about the issue.

-I will be creating a brochure that explains what the center is all about.

-I will include a website for the center.

-I will also include a video for further explanation of the center.

Look and Feel Issues

1. My presentation will be presented very seriously. I do not think that it would suitable to make it humorous in any way.

2. I will probably use a dark and subtle red color with hints of gray and myriad pro font because I feel as if that will fit my serious issue. I think that images of teenage mothers and their kids will be suitable for the video, and maybe a couple of graphs comparing the statistics of high school dropouts and teenage mothers.

3. I think that it will be persuasive by the songs that will be played in the background, the color schemes that will be used, and charts to provide evidence.

4. I will make my point of view understood by being very clear with my word choices and by showing the audience the statistics that back up what I say. I think that using the correct words will be key in making my point.

5. I intend on creating a floor plan/ blueprint and a 3D model of the center for teenage mothers using earth friendly objects only.

Thinking Ahead on the PSA

1. The key points that I will emphasize are:

-the increase in teenage pregnancy

-the dropout rate amongst teen moms

-how the center will impact the entire community

2. Some of the visuals and audio that I feel are appropriate are:

-either instrumental or indie style music

-pictures of teen moms

-voiceover while showing slides of pictures

3. Links and comments about the PSAs

-This PSA covered many facts about teen pregnancy and gave many opinions about how it affects the teenager, but I believe that it focused too much on their skit. It could have been more affective with more facts.

-I think the music in the background was very effective and helped the PSA be more persuasive. However, the PSA did not have enough narration. I think that if they talked more about the topic instead of focusing on the music and visuals, it would have been more effective.

-This PSA seemed to be very effective with the nice camera use that the director used.

Statement of Intent

1. My goal of this project is to provide a safe environment for new moms and their child. The pregnancy rate amongst teenagers has been increasing and so has dropout rates. The center that will be created will help decrease the dropout rates amongst the teen moms, and will allow the moms to learn how to provide good a good shelter for their child.

2. This project is important and should be cared about by the community because the center could end up being a perfect place for a family member or friend to go to. You never know when something like this could happen to someone you know, and this could be what helps your loved one cope with their stressful situation.

3. I am pursuing a career in the film and/ or advertising industry. This is connected to the project because I plan on filming a commercial advertising what the center is all about and designing posters that will eventually help advertise the center to the community.

4. My project gives back to society by helping teenage moms that are not very fortunate and can not provide everything that a baby may need. It will also help out by reducing the high school dropout rates. The center will help by providing an alternative to adoption and abortion for teens that believe that they can not handle all the stress on their own.

5. The center will be able to affect people, economics, and the environment in all different ways. First of all, it will affect the teen mom and her family by giving her a helping hand that is willing to assist her in everything she needs to do to make a home for her child. Second, it will help the country's economic problems because if there was not a center like this, the teen moms may have to go on welfare and other financial aides to make sure the baby is taken care of. All of these financial aides are paid for by tax payers, and will add more burdens to other families that are struggling as well. Finally, it will also be beneficial to the environment because the center will be constructed with green ideas in mind. We will be strong supporters of ideas such as recycling and reusing to make sure the environment will not be punished because of my project.
